The failure occurred between three and four times. While the Highlander Hybrid gets slightly better gas mileage than its conventional counterpart, it rates much better in the emissions department, classifying as a Super Low Emissions Vehicle. After speaking with Toyota corporation usa again, they apologized and said they misinformed me and that my vehicle was not part of that recall. I have driven only 44k mile and car has not been any accident and has been all regular maintenance and oil change. The drivers side caliper was frozen. The seats in this car looked much worse than mine but it had almost 10,000 miles on it.

Toyota has diagnosed it as the break accumulater as defective! A number of 2006 Highlander Hybrids have had the same failure, with no ability to use the battery to get the vehicle off the road and out of danger. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 108,000. I received no information about the warranty extension that Toyota supposedly got out to all those who purchased vehicles with this malfunction. Good luck holding one beverage well. Though extra lumbar support and a little bit more room in the 3rd seat would be nice. I ask for the guarantee and only was valid for 1 year. So far I made over 6000 miles.
One other thing I noticed is that while the engine was on the coolant resavory tank the bigger one was bubbling. Will go back to Mercedes. At first we thought it was the battery, as per tow truck driver. The ride is smooth, the look is new. I was able to confirm this diagnostic through many exact same complaints on your site. Did not receive a reply. The mechanic says it is because of the actuator issue. I also wish I had heated seats over the back up camera. It's quiet, even on the interstate. Had our non-dealer mechanic look at the brakes all were fine and had recently been replaced. We're getting about 21 mpg. There is not a fusible link or something-it's a design flaw at best.
The vehicle had to be towed to the nearest dealership and we had to arrange for a rebuilt engine replacement. It's not got all the computer equipment the new ones do and it's mine. My wife was the driver. Even my Prius has one. At that time I took the car in and had the brake actuator assembly replaced under a limited service recall by Toyota and the replacement actuator assembly also failed within 18 months. The affected vehicles may experience compression of the seat cushion which may damage the seat heater wiring. I've just heard mixed things on this, maybe depending on the what I'm attempting? When I had my mechanic check as to the problem, he indicated that the universal joint was damaged worn , and that to repair it would require him to replace the driveshaft also.
I should have gone with the Honda Pilot or Acura and will be trading my vehicle soon and will never, never, go back to Toyota. No one can identify--it happens over 45mph. I know a lot of people. I have also seen post related to same problem from many customers. Third row seats are only practical for small children, but this was not why I bought it - only used third row seat once.
The Highlander Hybrid will make its debut in June 2005, in base and Limited trim levels and with front- or all-wheel drive. However, I've recently learned that at 60mph on the highway with the cruise control set and being gentle on the starts and stops, I can get over 20mpg.
