Two days after having my car fully serviced and my over drive light came on and as soon as that happened my car started telling me I need to get my transmission checked. I put the plug back in after about a quart ran out it looked like it wasn't going to stop because I though that I might be checking it wrong. The dealer inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that she needed to replace the transmission. I don't have a few thousand dollars sitting around at my disposal to fix my car. May use the 3 day rule regarding contracts and see if I can return the escape and get my money back.
I ended up selling her to a friend's uncle with a blown motor. The transmission had just been rebuilt before I bought it. If it doesn't, you could be low. We are now left with a vehicle that we can't sell and can't drive. Update from Aug 11, 2015 : ford will not make good on their junk transmissions. The manufacturer advised her that the transmission might need to be replaced.
The contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the overdrive warning indicator illuminated until the engine was turned off. We have read up on the problem and have discovered that it is very common for the earlier built 2002 Ford Explorers. Two weeks later we had this friend drive the ford explorer to dmv to register and plate the vehicle, I rode with him and my wife followed. This has cost me more than money, it cost my job, home. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. Vehicle has a non-serviceable transmission cooler.
This is a known problem by Ford and have done nothing to rectify if with consumers. Other side you need a special disconnect tool. I did some research and found out there are thousands of people with the same transmission problem. I had all the paperwork. Quick thinking, I took my seat belt off and threw all my body weigh toward the driver, which perhaps saved us and kept the vehicle from flipping over several times. We are now facing rebuilding it again.
The contact stated that the gear shift selector detached from the hinge while the contact was attempting to change gears. I have researched this issue and many other consumers not just myself have had this incident happen to them, I believe Ford is in the wrong for having faulty manufacturing, they have made it so any transmission work has to be done by the dealer, you can't even check your own transmission fluid. Now today has become my worst nightmare. They made and sold defective vehicles and won't do anything about it. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. I also can't have my car in the shop for a long period of time due to the fact if I miss more than 3 classes most of my professors will drop me.
Ford needs to step forward and be accountable for our Daughter's death and recall every Ford explorer on the road with this faulty transmission before it happens to someone else. The ford was still running but wouldn't move in reverse nor drive. Truly don't know what I'm going to do now. The contact stated that she was unable to shift the vehicle into reverse. The current and failure mileages were 131,000.
On the way the od light came on, transmission was not shifting into gears properly then a lot of rattling loud grinding noise came from under the ford, all of a sudden as he was going around a bend on co. The contact stated that while driving various speeds the vehicle would lunge forward at times, stall, and shifting would be difficult. I'm a full time college student paying for my classes with student loans and grants. The 4x4 didn't work which I found out in a blizzard. Driving away from the dealer, the problem continued.
Ok You Need a swivel socket. I had my '02 transmission fluid and filter changed at the dealer in in Feb. Obviously, the transmission was poorly designed with many defects. You do this by pouring transmission fluid into the tube that your transmission dipstick is in. Vehicle has a non-serviceable transmission cooler.
The dealer was contacted and told the contact that there were no recalls for the failure. Look at the size diference, 2 sides and on the other line towards the engine is one Line. Not yet repaired - deciding our next action. I am sooooo beyond angry!!! D light began blinking and the truck started jerking violently. I feel as if Ford needs to issue a recall on their transmissions or offer some kind of help to pay for these unacceptable incidents. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that there were no recalls for the failure and would not provide any assistance.
The failure mileage was 190,000. If you research this a bit on G … oogle you can even find out how to do it yourself, but you would have to be a pretty good mechanic to do so. Vehicle has a non-serviceable transmission cooler. In addition, repairs were made to the overdrive piston, overdrive speed sensor, overdrive band, carrier planter, and reverse board bushing. I even had a bunch of people look to buy her, as well as my family look at it, and the engine was toast. Those transmissions are a time bomb waiting to explode.
